Chevrolet Performance Bowtie big block Chevy cast iron engine blocks have all 8620 steel main caps and are CNC-machined. They are race-prepared blocks that feature blind head and accessory mounting bolt holes, a deck configuration that enables the use of any big block Chevy cylinder head, and cylinder bores that may be safely bored to a 4.600 in. maximum diameter, while maintaining a .250 in. minimum cylinder wall thickness. The Chevrolet Performance Bowtie big block Chevy cast iron engine blocks differ from the production-machined Bowtie versions in certain areas--they start from raw castings and are not "conversions."

These Chevy blocks were produced in both two and four bolt main caps. These blocks can be used for performance applications of up to about 450 hp, but be forewarned that as these blocks age, they are susceptible to cracking in the lifter valley and underneath the main webs. This is especially true of the 4-bolt main blocks since the majority of these blocks were used in trucks and performance applications that saw especially rough duty.

Many engine builders swear by studs instead of bolts. Studs offer increased clamping loads with reduced block and bore distortion. The Bow Tie offers increased strength and durability over any production block and can be easily identified by the cast-in bow tie on its flanks.

When designing the engine, MAN's engineers focused on the rigidity of the block and a reduction in the number of components.

You have to ride these doonz and bowls to know what kind of feeling it gives. Of course it helps to have your bike set up properly with sand tires. I wouldn't think of running the sand again without sand paddles.
